Training Camp

The Sactown Boosters anticipate yet another invitation to Raiders training camp this year.  The Oakland Raiders team is one of the few NFL franchises that still has a closed training camp.  Even though camp is closed to the general  public, through  our membership in the Steering Committee for the Booster Clubs of the Oakland Raiders (SCBCOR),  the Sactown Original Raider Booster Club has had the privilege of being invited to attend training camp every year so far.

Our invitation to attend is usually for a week day.  We will know more by July.   A carpool/caravan from the Sacramento area complete with complimentary pre-departure coffee and doughnuts  is also planned.   If you would like to sign up early  and get on the training camp “pre-list” , let your Steering Committee Representative Denise know:  raiderlady@hotmail.com.

There is no cost to attend, but you must be a paid member of the Sactown Original Raider Booster Club to attend.  Club membership runs from August 15th to August 14th of each season.  To join or renew, click here for  membership information.

You can check out video clips from the Sactown Raider Boosters’ 2011 trip to training camp here on our website. Stay tuned for more details!

Jon-award

Oakland Raiders long snapper Jon Condo, was recently honored with the Commitment to Excellence (CTE) Award, at a dinner hosted by the Steering Committee for the Booster Clubs of the Oakland Raiders (SCBCOR). The award recognizes the player who “exemplifies the pride, poise and spirit of the Oakland Raiders,” explained SCBCOR Chairperson Dave Laughlin.

The award  is voted by the players each year and has been awarded to Raiders legends such as Marcus Allen, Tim Brown, Fred Biletnikoff, and Jim Otto. The Commitment to Excellence Award Dinner also presents an opportunity for the recipient to raise money for the charity of his choice, and Condo chose to donate the money raised in his honor $10,000 to Teammates for Kids.

Speaking about Teammates, Condo said, “It’s a wonderful charity, and it’s geared towards helping kids across the country and internationally, whether they have sicknesses or other disabilities. It just helps kids. It’s a great charity, and I’m glad I can represent it.”

Read the full article as posted on the Teammates for Kids Foundation website here.    A total of $10,000 was raised by the CTE dinner.  that amount will be matched and doubled by the Foundation.  The money will go to support a non-profit in the Oakland area that works with kids..  A short video clip of from the dinner of Coach Allen’s speech acknowledging Raiders fans and Jon is on our website here.  Congratulations again to Jon!

In addition to the award presentation, the dinner will also feature current and former Raiders players and coaches, Raiders executives, silent and live auctions, music and dancing.  The event will be emceed by syndicated sports talk show host  JT the Brick. The dinner is a great way to celebrate the honor of the CTE award with the recipient and the Raiders on a very personal level.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Teammates for Kids Foundation  sponsored by Garth Brooks. No funds will come back to the Steering Committee. The Teammates for Kids Foundation spends 100% of all donations on the kids.

The cost of the dinner includes a complimentary wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres during the pre-dinner reception, and a four course  meal complete with wine.  Cost of the dinner is $125/person. Members of Oakland Raiders Steering Committee Booster Clubs, prior CTE attendees and Raiders season ticket holders receive a discounted price for the dinner of $115/person.

Although the dinner “technically” ends around 10:00 p.m., the party often continues late into the night.  Don’t feel like driving home?  The Hilton Hotel is offering a discounted room rate of $98/night for the event.  This is a great deal!  The regular room rate for that night is $244. To secure the special CTE room rate, reservations must be made directly with the Hilton at 1-800-HILTONS and asking for the “COE” rate.   The rate is guaranteed through February 23, 2013.

Click here to view a copy of the invitation that was mailed out, and a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) that should help answer any additional questions you may have about the dinner. The Oakland Raiders have also published the event details on the Raiders website here .  Yo view pictures from last year’s dinner taken by Sactown member and official photographer, Sac D,  click here .   To keep the dinner an intimate and interactive experience for attendees with the recipient and the Raiders, space is limited.  So make your plans now!
